- Promote safe, effective pain control
- Educate both healthcare professionals and NH citizens about pain
- Advocate for public awareness
- Provide current information about services within New Hampshire
Pain Facts
According to the American Pain Foundation:
- 20% of American adults report that pain or physical discomfort disrupts their sleep a few nights a week or more
- More than half of all hospitalized patients experienced pain in the last days of their lives.
- An estimated 70% of those with cancer experience significant pain during their illness, yet fewer than half receive adequate treatment for their pain
- Back pain is the leading cause of disability in Americans under 45 years of age.
- The annual cost of chronic pain in the US including healthcare expense, lost income and lost productivity is estimated to be $100 billion.
Help NHPI Make a Difference
- Become a trained advocate to attend legislative hearings that affect pain management policies in New Hampshire
- Become a member of NHPI/NHHPCO ($50 annual individual membership)
- Volunteer for special projects that support the NH Pain Initiative
- Make a donation to support our mission to provide better pain control for NH residents
