About NHPI

Founded in 1991, the New Hampshire Cancer Pain Initiative was the 17th state pain initiative in the United States.  In 2005, it was renamed the New Hampshire Pain Initiative (NHPI) to reflect a commitment to all aspects of pain regardless of its cause or the age/stage of life when it is experienced.  The NHPI functions as a board committee of the New Hampshire Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.  NHPI gratefully acknowledges support from the American Cancer Society for a variety of projects, including the revision of this website.

The NHPI committee consists of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, administrators, consumers and other professionals as well as people living with pain.

Background

New Hampshire Pain Initiative is a grass-roots organization committed to improving the way pain is managed in our state.  Medical professionals and interested citizens work together to further NHPI’s goals.  We meet monthly as a steering committee in Concord.  We also have small groups that work on very specific goals.

Goals of NHPI

  • Promote safe, effective pain control
  • Educate both healthcare professionals and the citizens of NH about pain
  • Advocate for public awareness and legislation that supports state of the art pain management
  • Provide current, accurate information about resources and services within NH to help people affected by pain
